Privacy policy

This site collects the least data it reasonably can, and asks first for anything beyond that.

What this site itself does not collect

There is no account system, no comment section and no contact form here, so nothing you type is stored anywhere. The map, the radar chart and every number on a city page load from static files computed in advance; none of it is generated per visitor.

What Google Analytics collects, if you accept it

Clicking "Accept" on the cookie banner loads Google Analytics 4, which then knows the pages you visit, your approximate location (city-level, from your IP address - not the address itself), and your device and browser type. Google sets a cookie, usually named _ga or _ga_<container-id>, to recognise repeat visits. None of it is tied to a name or an account, because this site has neither. See Google's privacy policy for what Google itself does with it, and Google's Analytics retention settings for how long it is kept. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with any advertiser - this site currently carries no advertising at all.

Why

To know which cities and languages actually get read, which is what decides where the next city, or the next translation review, goes.

Your choice

Analytics loads only after you accept the banner. Decline it, or use the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer at any time to change your mind, and nothing further is sent. Declining cannot recall what an earlier session already sent, the same way a script already run cannot be un-run - but every visit after a change follows the new choice. The choice itself is stored in your browser's local storage under the key "consent-analytics", not in a cookie: a consent mechanism should not itself need consent.
